Industrial Refrigeration Operator

About the position:
Skillwork is seeking an Industrial Refrigeration Operator to join our team. This is a traveling position that offers flexibility, freedom, and the ability to learn new skill sets while working with a variety of companies. The successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of boilers and boiler room auxiliary equipment such as pumps, steam and water valves, air compressors, and high-pressure condensate. It is a full-time position with a salary range of $26.00 - $30.00 per hour, plus benefits including medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, a 401(k) plan, and more.

Key qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as an Ammonia Operator 1 or RETA CARO, or a similar certification;
  • Ammonia Operator 2 or RETA CIRO certification preferred;
  • 2+ years of experience as a refrigeration technician/operator;
  • High School Diploma or GED;
  • Valid Driver's License;
  • Good written, verbal, and interpersonal skills;
  • Proficient reading schematics;
  • Ammonia Refrigeration experience;
  • Engine & Boiler systems;
  • Electricity & motor controls;
  • Pneumatics & Hydraulics;
  • Mechanical systems;
  • Predictive/Predictive maintenance;
  • Site utilities;
  • System analysis & troubleshooting;
  • Pipefitting & welding;
  • Machining;
  • Metal fabrication.

Key responsibilities:

  • Maintain and repair boilers and boiler room auxiliary equipment such as pumps, steam and water valves, air compressors, and high-pressure condensate;
  • Monitor load demands and start or shut down respective boilers, air compressors, and water pumps;
  • Monitor chemical feed system for water treatment and make necessary tests and adjustments to ensure correct chemical levels;
  • Adjust valves to control the flow of water and fuel, increase or decrease steam, water, and air as required, and control equipment malfunctions;
  • Inspect boiler safety devices and report abnormal operating conditions or major repair requirements;
  • Perform minor repairs such as replacing defective meters, packing valves, worn gaskets, tightening joints;
  • Receive calls from departmental personnel regarding problems and perform maintenance as necessary;
  • Maintain the boiler room and work area in a clean, orderly, and safe condition, and clean and paint equipment as necessary;
  • Assist in the annual boiler inspection and prepare boilers for annual inspection;
  • Demonstrate personal commitment to the organization's core values through active involvement in the quality improvement process.
  • Demonstrate safe work practices and attitudes, follow all safety rules, work to prevent unsafe conditions and behaviors, and participate in organizational and departmental safety programs.
